Europe Beyond Access: Consortium Project Manager (Sweden)

Europe Beyond Access (EBA) is Europe’s largest and most influential initiative to focus on the active participation of artists with disabilities in mainstream dance and theatre. Ten leading European performing arts institutions are joining forces to advance the work and careers of disabled artists – including Deaf artists, artists with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and learning difficulties – through an ambitious programme of transnational creation and circulation, artistic capacity building, and institutional learning. We are working to embed best practices and innovation in our mainstream organisations and networks to eliminate ableism in Europe’s cultural arena.

Each of the partners in the project has allocated a Project Manager to run the individual partner activities alongside the Artistic Leads and Marketing Teams from the partners. The EBA Consortium Project Manager will work alongside the EBA Project Director, and the EBA Consortium Communications Officer to ensure the good management of the whole collaborative programme. This means supporting good and timely communication with and between the partners, good communication with and meeting requirements of the European Commission Funder, and the good management of the key collaborative actions of the consortium collaboration. The EBA Consortium Project Manager will be employed by the lead partner of the consortium, Skånes Dansteater.

The EBA Consortium Project Manager is ensuring that the commitments to the Funder are met, and that evidence and proof required by the Funder is provided by the consortium.

The EBA Consortium Project Manager is the only full-time role on the project with 100% of time focussing on the project. EBA Project Director is 3 days a week, and partner colleagues are all part time on the project. Therefore, the EBA Consortium Project Manager is expected to develop a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of the complete overall project, as well as understanding the different needs and challenges of all ten partners. By doing so the EBA Consortium Project Manager can be the first point of call for questions from the project partners about project structure, finance, and schedule, as well as can be a guide to partners on how additional opportunities can be found to exploit the project for full impact.

The position offers:

A full-time contract with monthly salary including pension scheme for the project period 1 January 2024 – 31 December 2027.

Workspace and the support of committed team at Skånes Dansteater, Malmö in Sweden.

Flexible working hours and the possibility to work from home after 18 months. The workplace during the first 18 months is located at Skånes Dansteater, Malmö.

Deadline: 17 November 2023

More info and apply: https://www.skanesdansteater.se/en/europe-beyond-access-consortium-project-manager

Art Inside Out: ’Forgotten Realms’ Residency in Kungsbacka Municipality (Sweden)

Ghosts, giants and trolls. Nymphs, lantern-carrying spirits, werewolves, and witches. The region of Halland, southwest on the Swedish westcoast has a history filled with old stories, myths, and legends about supernatural creatures and phenomena, and the county of Kungsbacka is no exception. These are narratives and testimonies that have been passed down for generations and become part of a cultural-historical heritage. In the old farming society, nature’s beings were a living element of everyday life and gave expression to fears, cares, and moral dilemmas. The sea, lakes, and the deep forests were portals to that which could not be controlled – a border between the everyday life and the supernatural, where humans were only temporary visitors of whom respect and reverence were demanded. In the twilight hour, the unthinkable became possible.

In a time characterised by advanced weaponry, ‘fake news’, conspiracy theories, extreme weather, selfies, screens – speed and affect – ensouled nature, the spiritual and magical world seems to have taken on new meaning that tempts our fantasies and needs in the search for our inner selves. Global mobilisation in the face of environmental and climatic threats, along with a growing longing for a life in harmony with nature, have meant that the forest and its inhabitants’ mystique, knowledge, and power have become a sought-after refuge – far from the din of city life. Mythological and magical beings’ re-emerging presence crosses the boundaries of reality’s possibilities and points toward new queer worlds in which gender roles, perceptions of good and evil, beautiful and ugly, and us and Others stand to be dissolved.

With the artistic residency Forgotten Realms, Art Inside Out will invite two artists to Tjolöholm Castle to explore the irrational, fantastic and magical in our lives through various forms of artistic investigation over 8 weeks.

Submissions from international artists in an interdisciplinary field of contemporary artistic production are welcome. The residency schedule is as follows: research 11–24 March 2024, production 15 May – 23 June 2024. The artworks created during the residency will be presented in an exhibition at Tjolöholm Castle, opening by mid June 2024.

Each residency artist will receive a fee of 100,000 SEK (~8600 EUR) for an 8-week long residency and a have access to a production budget of approximately 50,000 SEK (~4300 EUR). There is also an additional budget for installation and other exhibition related costs available. Art Inside Out covers associated costs such as travel, housing, workspaces and process management.

Deadline: 26 October 2023

More info and apply: https://artinsideout.se/en/news/utlysning-residens-i-kungsbacka-kommun-2024

Theatre in Palm: Hybrid Residency for Performing Artists

Theatre in Palm, an international project funded by Creative Europe, is hosting a Hybrid Residency on 6–17 November 2023. During the 2-week residency you will work with 10 local artists and 20 international artists, both live and online. The residency will end with 4–12 co-produced, new theatre pieces that are shared online with the whole group of 120 artists, plus 12 mentors, and the rest of the online world.

The Hybrid Residency will take place for two weeks in 12 countries simultaneously in November 2023. In the Hybrid Residency, all 12 Theatre in Palm countries work in country trios:

Finland-Sweden-Greece.

Ireland-Italy-Belgium.

Spain-Portugal-Netherlands.

Bulgaria-Romania-Cyprus.

During week 1, 10 selected artists in each Theatre in Palm country will work live locally during the first week of residency. Local artists work in a small group of 5 members and online with five artists from another country.

During the weekend (11–12 November) of week 1, 10 local artists will travel abroad (e.g. 5 artists from Finland to Sweden and 5 artists from Finland to Greece). Each Theatre in Palm country decides from its residents who will travel to which country.

During week 2, all trios will produce three approximately 15-minute performances streamed online at the end of the 2nd week on 17 November. Trios can also decide to combine the performances into one 45-minute performance.

The residency works on the theme of Environmental Impact and on common impulse material. Participants are guided by experienced mentors who have prepared the work in advance. The intention is to produce performances that deal with the theme and are all united by one common element: organic material.

Applicants must be emerging artists resident in an EU country and over 18 years old. Travel and accommodation in another country will be paid for by the project.

Deadline: 6 September 2023

More info and apply: https://theatreinpalm.turkuamk.fi/open-call/

Dialekt: Call for Nordic Residency Exchange (Denmark, Sweden, Canada)

With the newly established project Dialekt - An exploration of international co-creation in audiovisual artistic expression and performance, three partners across three countries come together in order to present a call-out for artists to travel, develop a project in residency, and perform at each location – at Sound Art Lab in Struer, Denmark, Inkonst in Malmö, Sweden, and Eastern Bloc in Montreal, Canada.

Dialekt grew out of a curiosity for exploration of co-creation across sectors, aiming to foster a framework that can allow artists active in the fields of digital art and experimental sonic practices to experience fruitful exchanges and professional development within their own practice whilst connecting with institutions, collaborators and audiences in regions that they otherwise wouldn’t necessarily have access to.

The focus of innovation for this project lies very much in the forefront for all of the involved partners. Both Sound Art Lab, Inkonst and Eastern Bloc, are all pushing forward-thinking projects in and around their overlapping programmes of digital arts, sonic arts and electronic music, and constantly support implementing changes for developing new techniques and tools in these areas. Although the chosen artists that will be selected for this programme around exchange and co-creation might have different backgrounds, workflows and strategies, they will be tied together by striving towards exploring new technologies, aesthetics, shapes and forms within their artistic practice.

Interdisciplinary and sound artists, audiovisual performers, experimental electronic composers and musicians are invited to submit proposals of projects currently in development to be completed, or improvisational practices that could be further worked upon during three shorter residency periods, all concluding in live performance opportunities across three countries. Individuals residing in Denmark, Sweden, and in the province of Quebec can apply.

Selected applicants will spend a total of about 3 weeks in residence divided between the different centres in order to further develop and build upon live performance structures and explore audiovisual tools and techniques, to ultimately publicly present their work during different stages of their project as part of public events. Travel and accommodation will be covered between all three locations, and artists will be received a total compensation of 2100$ CAD / 16,895 SEK / 10,803 DKK including per diem covering meal
and incidental expenses, residency and public presentation fees.

Deadline: 23 June 2023

More info and apply: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1g1Af3B4ui7ev7P4QPTDkBbWbFynd0u63

Norbergfestival is a 24-year old festival, held on the abandoned iron mine site of Mimerlaven in Norberg, Sweden. The festival presents contemporary music, performances and interdisciplinary works for three days in July and gathers around a thousand visitors yearly. This year’s iteration is planned for 6–8 July 2023.

Apart from producing a work shown at Norbergfestival 2023, the one-month long residency is an opportunity to do research, location-scouting and networking. Visual artists from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. The work can be presented for example as an exhibition or as a performance.

The chosen resident will be provided with:

OpenArt: Call for Mainly Outdoor Artworks (Sweden)

OpenArt is an exhibition that takes place in the city centre of Örebro in Sweden every second summer. Contemporary artworks are displayed outdoors and available for public interaction day and night during the exhibition period. For each edition the festival presents a large number of artists working in a wide variety of art mediums and techniques. The majority of the artworks are sculpture and installations but OpenArt welcome artists working in all disciplines, interested in the intersection between art and the public. The next edition will take place June - September 2024.

OpenArt is primarily an outdoor exhibition, which is promoted in this year’s selection of artworks. Artists who intend to apply to OpenArt 2024 should primarily apply with artwork that can be placed outdoors. There will be an opportunity for applicants to add a portfolio with more ideas or existing artworks if indoor areas arise later in the planning.

As most of the projects exhibited at OpenArt are of temporary character they aim to use material carefully and in a sustainable and cautious way when producing. It is important to have an overall plan for the material used before, during and after the exhibition. For example, can materials be collected for a project and then recycled after the exhibition?

Budget for participating artists:

Artist fee of 10,000 SEK (~900 EUR).

When creating a new artwork, OpenArt provides production support according to an agreed production budget.

OpenArt books and pays for the transport of artworks to and from the exhibition.

OpenArt books and pays for travel and accommodation during installation.

Lund University is inviting contributions for the two-day conference ‘Music’s institution and the (de)colonial’, to be held in Lund, Sweden on 4–5 May 2023. They welcome researchers, artists, and activists whose work explores issues of colonialism, decolonial resistance, and/or institutional decolonisation initiatives in relation to music’s past and present.

The organisers will prioritise in-person presentations, but remote presentations may be accepted in exceptional cases. A budget exists for covering the travel costs of scholars without other sources of funding.

The conference welcomes creative methods, interdisciplinary approaches, and different presentation formats, but invites all contributors to specifically address one of the following three themes:

Musical colonisation.

Music as decolonial resistance.

Dynamics of colonialism in musical institutions today.

See the full call for papers for a fuller explanation of the topics.

Deadline: 14 February 2023

More info and apply: https://www.kultur.lu.se/article/call-for-papers-musics-institution-and-the-decolonial/

Rejmyre Art Lab: Production Residency on the Theme of ‘Refuging’ (Sweden)

How does a factory town that produces glass become a factory town that produces refuge?

Rejmyre Art Lab invites artists from fine, performing and craft backgrounds, who are engaged with conceptual and contextual practices, to participate in a funded eight-week, production-based residency in Rejmyre, Sweden, in the spring and summer of 2023. Rejmyre has, since 2009, played host to a long-term, place-based, artistic research project with a focus on site-responsive practice.

Rejmyre itself is located amongst the forests and lakes two hours southwest of Stockholm. With a population of approximately 1000, Rejmyre is a small factory town centred around the Reijmyre Glasbruk, a glass factory founded in 1810 and still in operation.

One of the Rejmyre Art Lab’s primary research themes has, since 2018, been refuging: an exploration of how giving/taking refuge, as an act and practice, can be developed and facilitated through multiple artistic interactions and interventions. The theme has been developed by the project’s research leader Daniel Peltz, who, together with artistic director Sissi Westerberg, will introduce the theme and projects developed thus far during the residency.

The residency itself consists of a funded eight week working period, with six weeks on site in Rejmyre:

One week of Ensemble Residency: 24-30 April 2023.

Individual research and production on site in Rejmyre: 1 May - 5 June 2023.

Reflection and post-production, off site: two weeks of work spread out over the summer and autumn of 2023.

Applications are invited from artists, working in any medium, who are interested in engaging their practices in exploring the research topic of ‘refuging’. International and Nordic/Baltic artists receive a participation stipend of 24,000 SEK, material/production stipend up to 12,500 SEK, travel stipend, housing in Rejmyre (individual bedrooms with shared bathroom and shared communal spaces), shared production space in historic early 20th century factory buildings with the possibility of individual (bookable) space, and 1 communal lunch per week.

Deadline: 31 January 2023

More info and apply: https://www.rejmyreartlab.org/residency/production-residency-open-call

Trans Europe Halles: Senior Project Manager / Researcher (Sweden)

Trans Europe Halles is looking for a senior project manager / researcher to lead the Creative Europe ‘Cultural Transformation Movement’ project (Jan 2023 - Jan 2027).

Co-financed by the European Commission and led by the network Trans Europe Halles (TEH), The Cultural Transformation Movement Project (CTMP) is a four-year process that aims to diversify artistic production and its destination – starting from within the organisation itself. This will be achieved through generating and implementing strategies and methodologies of cultural management and creation processes developed with/by underrepresented communities (URCs). The project is led by TEH with its four members who are multidisciplinary art centres from Ukraine, Italy, Belgium and Austria. This project researches and examines two dimensions, one within and the other around the partner centres/organisations. It also questions the relationship between just art-making, policymaking, the context, and the resulting art forms.

The Cultural Transformation Movement project (CTMP) is the first project of the Cultural Transformation Movement (CTM). The movement is a larger working group of TEH members who are investing in the topics of social and spatial justice, and who have the ambition to reduce inequalities and inspire the European cultural sector on how to transform the organisations from within, in equal partnership with the under-represented communities around them.

CTMP is a key strategic project for TEH and its success will determine a crucial area of work for the network: social and spatial sustainability.

As the project manager of the Cultural Transformation Movement Project (CTMP), you will:

Be responsible for the successful delivery of the CTMP

Develop and manage a detailed project plan in cooperation with the consortium.

Coordinate the CTMP consortium.

Be responsible for the quality control of all project deliverables submitted by the consortium members and other project stakeholders.

Collaborate with the TEH financial team to develop and submit the required technical and financial reports to the project.

Manage the project expenses and report to the financial manager, as well as coordinate with the project manager and financial managers of the partners.

In addition the you will be expected to:

Coordinate the CTM activities and co-produce public events and workshops with the CTM members.

Develop TEH’s relationship with the academic sector, be updated on the relevant academic literature on topics of social justice, spatial justice, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and relevant issues.

Understand the issues relevant to underrepresented communities and show a strong commitment to developing their active participation in our network.

This is a four-year full-time position, based in Sweden with flexibility of 50% remote work. Start date is 1 February 2023, and gross salary is 31,250 SEK.

Deadline: 31 December 2022

More info and apply: http://teh.net/we-are-hiring-a-senior-project-manager-researcher/
